Summer likely to be drier than last year

Wednesday is the meteorological start of summer. For weather forecasters, June 1st marks the start of the season Canadians crave through all those months of snow, ice and frigid temperatures.

Last year’s cold and wet summer was a let down.

660News Meteorologist David Spence says we can expect a drier summer than last year with normal levels of precipitation expected in June, July and August.

He says there are two systems that meteorologists use to determine long-range forecasts. While the Canadian model suggests we’re in for a warmer-than-average summer, the American model is calling for below-average temperatures all across the southern prairies this summer, just like last year.
