Fire burns tattoo parlour

A tattoo parlour in the northeast is badly damaged by smoke after a basement fire.

Fire crews arrived at the converted one-storey house in the 200 block of 24th Avenue N.E. Thursday night to find flames coming through the basement window.

Firefighters had to use a thermal imaging camera to find the fire due to heavy black smoke.

Crews were able to keep the blaze confined to a small space before it spread through the whole parlour, though the rest of the building was badly damaged by the smoke.

No one was found at the scene at the time of the fire.
