It’s National Environment Week
If you didn’t know that this is Environment Week in Canada, you’re not alone.
The idea was first floated way back in 1970 by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and then officially incorporated two years later.
Environment Week was first celebrated in 1972, the year Canada signed the United Nations declaration of World Environment Day on June 5th.
One woman who spoke to 660News, says she rides a scooter and tries to take measures to improve the environment on a daily basis and now that she knows about Environment Week she’ll do even more. She also plans to at least cut down on the number of paper coffee cups she uses.
Another woman plans to park the car and take transit in honour of the week-long event.
Environmental issues will be front and centre for thousands of Calgary kids starting Tuesday at the Mayor’s Environment Expo at City Hall.
