The mayor was front and centre on Wednesday for a cleanup of Stephen Avenue over the noon hour as part of the first ever 20 Minute Makeover.
He was joined by a number of downtown associations and community and corporate partners along with members of the public as part of the initiative to make our city a cleaner place.
Mayor Nenshi says when our community is clean, it’s a point of pride for everyone and treated with respect.
He says by pitching in, we are building a stronger, cleaner, more welcoming community and he hopes all Calgarians join in the effort.
Cigarette butts appear to be one of the biggest problems and the mayor says people need to realize they are litter just like anything else.
10 teams in total were in action at different locations around the city.
The city’s Clean To The Core Program began in 2006 and since then has made great strides in improving the cleanliness of the Centre City and the 20 Minute Makeover is building on that success.
