Alberta’s NDP leader is asking the RCMP to investigate allegations of queue jumping in the health system.
The claims have been made by former A.H.S C.E.O Stephen Duckett who says he stopped the practice when he took over the job in 2009.
Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky says he’s never heard of well connected Tories or others getting preferential treatment.
Brian Mason says the NDP has talked to a lawyer, who says there could be criminal charges here involving breach of trust by a public official.
Mason says an outside agency needs to get to the bottom of the issue.
“I don’t expect or trust the Progressive Conservative government to tell the truth or to do anything in a meaningful way to get to the bottom of any of the issues we have dealt with in the health system and it’s time to call in the cops.”
Mason has sent a letter to RCMP in Edmonton asking for the investigation.
The RCMP says it reviews all complaints and will determine if further action is warranted.
Alison Redford, a candidate for the Progressive Conservative leadership, has broken ranks with her party and demanded a judicial inquiry.
Wildrose Alliance Leader Danielle Smith and Liberal Leader David Swann are also calling for an inquiry.
