Staycations could give Stampede attendance a boost

The 30-day countdown to Calgary’s annual western party has begun.
On July 8th, more than 250,000 people will pack the city’s downtown core for the Stampede parade.
A new BMO survey has found that despite the high-flying loonie, most people plan to vacation in Canada this summer.
High fuel prices could also reduce how many kilometres people drive.
Calgary Stampede President Mike Casey tells 660News while their show is promoted around the world, its success really hinges on people in and around the city and those in neighbouring provinces.
Casey is confident the 99th edition of the Stampede will be a huge success because it also includes a visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Prince William and his new bride Kate Middleton will be in Calgary from July 6th to July 8th.
Casey says in the next several days the official travel itinerary of the royal couple will be released.
He hopes Will and Kate will take in the rodeo action, the nightly grandstand show and chuckwagon races and sample some of the food on the midway.
