Conservatives shoot down several resolutions at national party convention

OTTAWA, Ont. – Two of the biggest resolutions at the Conservative Party’s national convention have already been voted down.
Delegates at the convention struck out the creation of a Conservative youth wing, as well as a proposed changes to the voting procedure used to select the political party’s leader.
Under the proposed revisions, the vote for party leadership would have seen delegates from the most populated districts garnering greater voting power, thus holding more sway.
“The current system is working so well for us, and there really was no need for change,” said York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan.
While it’s been scrapped, a youth wing’s main purpose would’ve been to co-ordinate university campus organizations and encourage participation of people under 30.
The Conservative Party’s national convention kicked off Thursday night in Ottawa. Prime Minister Stephen Harper will address his party Friday night, informing the delegation of the party’s direction. The convention wraps up Saturday.
