Close call at the Elbow River

A close call at the Elbow River on Monday night.

Just after 6pm, the Calgary Fire Dept’s Aquatic Rescue Team were called to the Elbow River after someone heard shouting and saw two young men get into the river.

When they arrived, crews found two men in their mid-teens standing beside the river, very cold and wet.

Fire Battalion Chief Larry Fisher says they had lost their skateboard in the water and were trying to retrieve it when they discovered just how cold and fast the water was.

Fisher tells 660News the waterways in the city at this time of year can be very treacherous.

The two teens did not need medical attention and were handed over to their mothers.
