Expect long line-ups for Air Canada strikes: Travel agent

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Travel agents say get ready for long line-ups at YVR now that Air Canada customer service and sales employees have gone on strike.  Nearly 4,000 are now on strike after negotiations failed late Monday night.

Air Canada says it will maintain the same flight schedule and it will be business as usual for travellers.

Claire Newell with Jubilee Travel says people should expect major delays and they should get to the airport hours earlier than they normally would.  “I’m getting Air Canada actually coming out and saying everything is fine,” Newell said.  “That’s not the case, though.”

The Canadian Auto Workers Union says pension security and wage increases are the main issues.  Last week an airline expert told us customers probably won’t notice much of a difference because most people now check in online and print off their own boarding passes.
