Alberta’s mayors converge on Calgary

About 175 Alberta mayors and senior municipal administrators will be in Calgary attending the Mayors Meeting Wednesday through Friday.

Denis Lapointe is a spokesperson for the Alberta Liberals and he tells 660News, one of the reasons for the gathering is to help build a new relationship between the province and its municipalities.

“It’s basically communities of different sizes are going to be meeting over the course of the three days,” says Lapointe.  “They’re also going to be having the leadership candidates for the Alberta Liberals and for the Alberta Progressive Conservatives as well as the leaders of the existing provincial parties.  We” (the Alberta Liberals) “have a leadership” (race) “that’s underway, and also that’s the same with the Tories.  The AUMA is kind of using that vacuum to lobby hard for whoever is coming in as the new leaders to commit to some sort of new relationship between the province and the municipalities.”

The three days of meetings are being held at the Radisson Hotel in the Calgary’s northeast.
