Air Canada and striking workers reach tentative deal

OTTAWA – Canadian Auto Workers union says a tentative contract deal has been reached with Air Canada, whose customer service agents are on strike.
Earlier Thursday, the federal government had tabled a bill that would force striking Air Canada workers back to work.
Labour Minister Lisa Raitt introduced the bill in the House of Commons saying Canada’s economy would be compromised if Air Canada were to be shut down.
The bill is being opposed by the Liberals and the NDP.
Under parliamentary rules, Thursday was the first day the government could introduce back to work legislation after giving notice on Tuesday.
The earliest the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper can introduce a back-to-work bill for striking postal workers is Monday.
