Comic Expo drives thousands to Stampede Park

Over five thousand sci-fi fans walked through the doors for the Comic and Entertainment Expo on Friday alone, and event spokesperson Steve Hodges tells 660News, the fans make the show a success.
“Calgary’s come out in droves and that’s the reason why we’re Canada’s pop culture show because of the awesome support from our fans,” said Hodges. “Western Canada has a lot to be proud of and given Calgary, Alberta a heepin’ helpin’ of full-frontal nerdity.”
The event was a big hit over the course of the weekend bringing in thousands of people and event organizers say they’re very proud of the show
Mayor Naheed Nenshi joined in on the fun Saturday for a personal tour and William Shatner was on hand as he captivated an audience of 5,000 in the Stampede Corral before signing autographs.
“He had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand like William Shatner would do,” Hodges told 660News. “The man is a pop culture icon and he’s just been amazing to the fans.”
The Expo boasted a zombie walk, “Heroes versus Zombies” roller derby, a zombie walk, and drawing lessons for kids.
Hodges adds, Expo event staff are already thinking about next year and the event will only get better.
“I can assure all our expo-dites and our expo fans that we are going to try our best to make 20-12 our biggest year ever,” said Hodges.
