A large diesel leak Tuesday night forced 250 people to flee a high rise in the city’s southwest.
Fire crews were called to a commercial building in the 400 block of 2nd Street southwest just before 7 p.m. and found a significant amount of diesel fuel had been released onto the roof.
The hazardous materials unit was then called in.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Fisher tells 660News, the building was evacuated and the people were sent home.
Fisher says before fire crews arrived, building crews were trying to refuel an electrical generator when it overflowed.
Crews are working to clean up the scene, where approximately 500 litres of fuel leaked out, and expect the building to reopen Tuesday morning.
No injuries have been reported.
