Security measures in place for the Royal visit

In terms of safety, from the moment the royals land in Calgary to the second they leave, CPS will be working closely with the RCMP to ensure everyone’s safety.
Sergeant Patrick Webb with the RCMP tells 660News both sides know what their roll is during the royal visit.
“What we’re trying to do is balance protection and security needs against the public access to them, so what we are doing is working with the Calgary Police Service. We work with motorcades and bodyguards but the CPS will be the ones working very closely with us to ensure crowd control and deal with public security,” says Webb.
A spokesperson for the CPS says there will be road closures in place but just where and when won’t be revealed in advance for security reasons.
Heritage Minister James Moore says if media interest is any indication as to just how big the royal visit will be, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will draw much larger crowds than Queen Elizabeth II visit last year.
“During the last royal tour by Queen Elizabeth II there were 848 accredited journalists covering events across Canada. There are, as of Tuesday morning, 1,300 accredited journalists covering this tour,” says Moore.
He adds 241 accredited journalists from outside of Canada will be making their way to our great country compared to just 20 that flocked here for the Queens visit last year.
