Gusting winds hit up to 78 km an hour and caused outages around the City, Thursday evening.
Brian McAsey with the Calgary Fire Department tells 660News “We’ve had about 21 events, lots of downed power lines, trees on roadways, materials blown over.”
There were reports that intersections along 16th Avenue were affected and a number of roads were blocked off due to fallen debris.
Dan Jones with City Roads tells 660News crews prioritized calls coming into 3-1-1.
“Our responsibility there is to respond to pedestrian and traffic hazards, so the crews are out there moving the debris.”
Jones adds they are also looking into reports about older trees that may be damaged.
“We’ll contact the parks department, so that if any trees are in jeopardy, they can send there crews out, to judge the health of the tree.”
