Canada Post workers are delivering mail again, but CUPW Calgary Local President Anna Beale tells 660News union workers are disgusted with how Canada Post treated them.
Regardless, she says they’re glad to be getting their paycheques again.
Beale says sorting through all the mail that’s been piling up during the strike will take some time because of the sheer volume, and workers can’t work overtime to speed up the process.
On Monday, many on the picket line told passersby they’d been harpooned or “Harpered” by the federal government.
John has worked for Canada Post for close to 25 years and says he now sees things much more clearly.
“It’s not the conditions we wanted to go back to work under, we wanted to return to work under fair negotiations,” he says.
The postal worker says he doesn’t buy Labour Minister Lisa Raitt’s explanation that workers had to return for the betterment of the economy.
“As far as work goes, I’m very disappointed and very angry that we got legislated back and couldn’t bargain in good faith,” he says.
Beale says it will be some time before workers are able to set aside any animosity and hard feelings.
“When you have someone who’s your employer and pushes like that to get you out on strike and locks you out, forget the fence; there’s no fence left to mend,” she says.
