Disaster assistance costs province $438-million

A series of natural disasters has cost the province an estimated $438-million in the last year and a half.
The province released an annual report Wednesday citing forest fires, floods, drought and pine beetle infestations for the staggering total.
That number is likely to rise due to the Slave Lake wildfires and flooding in southern Alberta.
Finance Minister Lloyd Snelgrove tells The Calgary Herald, the province needs to come up with a plan to mitigate the costs in the future with better water management and control of flood plains.
