A flame burns for the Royal Couple

How special is this coming week in Calgary?

To give you an idea, Aspen Properties, which operates the Calgary Tower, has plans to light the tower flame Thursday night at 10.

It’s to mark the appearance in Calgary of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Will and Kate.

Other special occassions when the tower flame has been ablaze include the 1988 Winter Olympics here in Calgary .

Ironically, on this the country’s 144th birthday, the tower — then known as the Husky Tower — opened in 1967, marking Canada’s centennial.

The flame, which will only burn for two hours from 10pm till midnight, can be seen from 20 kilometres away.
