Police have busy long weekend issuing tickets

It was a busy long weekend for Alberta sheriffs and Mounties patrolling provincial highways.
They handed out more than 2,700 tickets; nearly 2,200 for speeding between Friday and Sunday.
Seventeen impaired drivers were pulled over as well.
The last time Canada Day was on a Friday was 2005 before the sheriff program was launched, so comparable numbers aren’t available.
