Struck by C-Train, man’s condition upgraded

The status of an elderly man, struck by a southbound C-Train at the Heritage Station, has been upgraded.
City Police Duty Inspector Paul Stacey says the incident happened around 9:20, Friday night.
“A 60 year old male was struck by a southbound LRT train,” Stacey tells 660News. “He was transported to the Foothills Hospital with a head injury and he was in serious condition at the time, and we were told initially it was life threatening. But he has since been upgraded to non life threatening by the emergency room doctors at the hospital.”
The traffic division is investigating the incident, but Stacey says at this point it’s not known if the man was disoriented or inebriated at the time of the incident.
“We’re still investigating that, but luckily the event was caught on the LRT, closed-circuit, television cameras,” adds Stacey. So that’ll be a key aspect for our traffic unit investigators to be looking at to determine why this might have happened.”
The incident did cause a disruption to southbound C-Train traffic for about two hours as police investigated.
“Unfortunately during Stampede, a super busy time, the LRT had to be shutdown for almost two hours,” Stacey notes. “But Transit was really good at diverting passengers and ensuring they got to where they needed to go.”
