Some of the most powerful people in the country greeted the royal couple as they arrived at Calgary Rotary Challenger Park Friday afternoon.
With Kate wearing a tailored red dress and Will in a blue suit, the couple was greeted by the prime minister and the Governor General before they came to what’s called the “Portrait of Honour Mural,” which is a collage of photographs of those we’ve lost to war.
The duke and duchess laid a wreath at the foot of the memorial before pausing for a moment of silence.
Then the glamorous couple descended on a red carpeted staircase into a sea of cheers. Kate stood next to the dais, while Will carefully inspected each soldier standing before him in the guard of honour, taking time to stop and talk to several.
Fans cheered from all directions as the duke completed his task, at which point he returned to the dais, standing between the prime minister and his wife on one side and a smiling Catherine, the Governor General and his wife on the other.
After a royal salute, the band played O’ Canada and the royals turned to greet the mayor, other dignitaries, and Canadian war veterans for about fifteen minutes before they were whisked away amidst ruckus of cheering.
