A close call for residents of a Dalhousie apartment building in the northwest, Friday evening.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Fisher tells 660News fire crews arrived at a blaze in the 4000 block of Dalton Drive to find the fire only moments away from spreading to the apartment building.
“On arrival, the Incident Commander encountered a rather large building waste container that was fully involved,” says Fisher. “The apartment building just behind it was three storeys, and the flames were reaching the bottom of the soffits on the roof. We estimate another minute and the fire would have gotten into the apartment building.”
Investigators say the blaze was extinguished quickly with limited damage.
It was a busy Friday for fire crews which dealt with a number of grass and brush fires, made worse by high winds and a sea of poplar tree fluff.
