Storm pounds Alberta towns

Homeowners are dealing with flooded basements and workers are scrambling to restore power and communications after a devastating thunderstorm pounded Eckville, in central Alberta.
John Muir with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency tells 660News they are working with municipal leaders in that town and several others impacted by recent severe summer storms.
“We have field staff located throughout the province and the Alberta Emergency Management Agency has either been in touch with, or in the process of contacting, municipalities to get better assessment of what the damage was… and some of the scope of the flooding,” Says Muir. “And to offer any supports that they need for their inititial response, assisting them with advice on their emergency plan, their emergency response, and implementing that… to acquiring sandbagging machines.”
Muir says so far, there have not been any calls for disaster relief funding but that could change in the coming days.
Other centres dealing with wet conditions include Lacombe, Bentley, Gull Lake, Rimbey and Parkland Beach.
More than 100 homes may be flooded after those storms rolled through.
Eckville was the hardest hit, with some people being put up in the town’s community centre.
