Rockyview General Hospital is using a new technology that’s helping doctors spend more time saving pateints in emergency rooms.
The smart card technology was introduced in April and already shows doctors can save up to an hour per shift using one.
Alberta Health Services says these cards allow doctors to quickly and securely access patient information, precription records, and lab results from a number of work stations.
Previously, doctors would have to log in and out at different systems to gain this access, taking up time that could be available to other patients.
This technology will be used at other hospitals starting with the Alberta Children’s Hospital to see if time can be saved at other locations.
