Some people become doctors, lawyers or farmers because it runs in the family.
David Smith Junior has been a human cannonball for the past 14 years because it, too, runs in the family.
The Bullet, as he’s known, says his dad blasted himself out of cannon for years and he is following in his footsteps.
It’s his first year at the Calgary Stampede, and the Florida native says even though he’s been doing it for so long, there is still a little bit of fear that goes through him before every show.
Smith says when he blasts out of the cannon his body goes from 0 to 80 km/h in less than a second, and experiences about nine times the pull of gravity.
The Human Cannonball blasts off twice a day in front of the Saddledome at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
