Stampede attendance up over last year

The “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” has wrapped up another 10 days of fun and excitement, and attendance is up.
The 99th edition kicked off with the eyes of the world turned to Calgary for the royal visit and ended with a final few days of sunny, hot weather.
Attendance rose by over 29,000 people this year to nearly 1.175 million, President Mike Casey credits the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as a key reason for the increase.
“We hosted guests from over 42 states in the USA, and over 50 countries from every continent around the world.”
New animal care rules helped reduce the number of horses put down from six in 2010 to two this year.
“We love animals in this park and clearly everything we can do to make it safe and a safe environment for them and every athlete, that’s what we do.”
As for the centennial celebration next year, Casey is confident it will once again be the greatest Stampede ever.
