Cougar put down near Canmore

Wildlife officers have killed a young cougar after it cornered three cyclists on a trail and attacked a dog.

The big cat leaped from bushes at a park just south of Canmore Monday night.

Conservation officers tracked it down the next day and tell The Calgary Sun the young female was starving; they were concerned the cougar was so hungry it might go after a child.

The same cat was captured and released in late June after following hikers near Banff.
