Record rainfall floods Calgary roads

A record rainfall in Calgary Tuesday swamped roads and underpasses and kept firefighters busy.
Nearly 40 millimetres fell during two storms, overloading storm sewers across the city.
Firefighters had to rescue at least three people from vehicles that ended up stranded in flooded areas.
The water also blew off manhole covers along Deerfoot Trail at McKnight Boulevard, closing the road for a number of hours.
660 Meteorologist David Spence says the storm was nasty enough to flood parts of the city.
“The storm was not severe, it didn’t have the severe hail or strong wind normally associated with severe storms, but it … contributed to a record rainfall.”
Some listeners tell 660News, the storm kept them indoors worried about hail damage.
Fire crews were also kept busy; the department rescued two people who ran into trouble while rafting along the Bow River.
