Sherman admits to whistleblowing

Former Tory MLA Raj Sherman has admitted he was the one who leaked letters and poor patient outcomes to the media last fall.
Sherman, who’s now running to lead the Alberta Liberals, told The Calgary Herald editorial board on Tuesday that the government wouldn’t act, so he did because he believes the public had a right to know.
The ER doctor, who was parliamentary assistant to health at the time, sent out an email revealing a promise from the premier for more long term care beds during the 2008 election campaign.
But as that pledge went unfulfilled, further letters from the Alberta Medical Association’s emergency medicine section included a growing list of hundreds of patients who had allegedly died or suffered poor care.
The Health Quality Council is currently investigating these and other healthcare allegations.
