Slave Lake firefighters battling Ontario blazes

It’s been a hectic few months for Slave Lake firefighters, and just as things settle down there, some are being whisked off to Ontario to help battle forest fires.

The Calgary Herald reports four forestry helitac experts from Slave Lake are part of 20 Alberta firefighters heading to Ontario for three weeks.

Ontario currently has 100 forest fires burning, covering more than 275,000 hectares.
Slave Lake was ravaged by a huge fire in May that destroyed 300 homes in the community.
