Ultralight plane crashes north of Calgary

A two seater plane has crashed near Panorama road and Devitts Pond in a farming area west of Airdrie.

The plane went down at about 11:00 Thursday morning after it’s believe the pilot had to abort take-off due to lack of speed.

The pilot was not injured while the passenger, Crossfield Mayor Nathan Anderson, received more serious injuries.

Both men were taken to hospital in stable non-life threatening condition.

The plane managed to squeeze between a fence below and some overhead power lines, a space of no more than about 25 feet.

Transport Canada is now investigating.
