Condo fire forces dozens from homes

Firefighters are still keeping an eye out for flare-ups after a major condo fire in a complex on Hemlock Crescent SW.

The blaze broke out in one of several connected condo buildings containing apartment-style units.

The fire, which began late yesterday afternoon, is believed to have started on the roof and may have been caused by lightning but investigators still have to determine that.

Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Al Magwood tells 660News they are still trying to estimate how much damage the fire caused.

“There’s substantial damage to the top floor and then the rest will have to be evaluated by engineers,” says Magwood.

No one was hurt.

Residents of the other sections of the building were allowed back into their units Friday night but those who live in the section affected by the fire had to find somewhere else to bunk down.

Some residents will be allowed escorted access to their suites Saturday afternoon to retrieve personal items.
