Norway terrorist suspect makes first court appearance

Anders Behring Breivik and his lawyer appeared before a Norwegian Judge Monday.

The 32-year-old entered a plea of not guilty to the terrorist charges that were read against him.

He’s been ordered to one month of complete isolation and won’t be allowed to receive letters, visits or use the media.

Breivik’s lawyer had asked for the arraignment to be open to the public, giving his client a platform to explain his actions.

The judge presiding over the case, agreed with a police request to move the hearing behind closed doors.

Breivik says he acted alone but has denied criminal responsibility in the twin terror attacks.

A bomb ripped through a government building in downtown Oslo on July 22nd, not long before a person opened fire on an island hosting a political youth camp.

Police have lowered the number of dead in the shooting rampage at a Labor Party youth camp to 68 from 86.

Eight people also died in the bomb blast in Oslo, putting the total death toll at 76.

Security officials say the massacre suspect bought small amounts of components for his bomb-making in Poland, adding the online purchases of the chemicals were legal.

French investigators are also searching Breivik’s father’s house in southern France.

His dad was a former diplomat in London, but says he hasn’t spoken to his son in years.

Under Norwegian law, Breivik faces a maximum of 21 years in jail if convicted, although that sentence can be extended if a prisoner is deemed a threat to the public.
