Bear warning on Banff hiking trails

Hikers on some popular trails in Banff National Park are being told to travel in packs of four or more, and to carry bear spray.
The warning applies to all trails beyond Stewart Canyon to the East Park boundary at Devil’s Gap, including Minnewanka Trail, until September 15.
Hikers who don’t follow the rules could see a $25,000 fine.
According to The Calgary Herald, the restrictions are in place to reduce the disturbance of grizzly bears during their feeding season.
