After 15 years as Chief Executive of Transalta Corporation Steve Snyder is stepping down from his post at the Calgary power giant.
The 2010 Canadian Energy Person of the Year led Transalta expansion into new markets including the U.S., Mexico, and Australia, while adding renewable energy sources like wind farms.
Snyder is well-known in Calgary for his philanthropic work with the Stampede, zoo and campaigning to end homelessness.
The Calgary Herald reports Snyder will be replaced by Dawn Farrell, currently Chief Operating Officer of the company, when he officially retires at the start of 2012.
