Step Up for Somalia

Thousands of Somalis are starving to death from the country’s worst drought in 60 years.

But, Alberta youth are stepping up to raise funds and awareness for the victims as part of their ‘Step Up for Somalia’ campaign.

Seven Somali-Canadian cousins are walking from Calgary to Edmonton from August 5th to 8th to raise funds for Oxfam Canada to go towards the drought victims.

One of the walkers Nasra Said tells 660News, the 303 km walk will be a challenge, but she considers it a luxury.

“We just want to keep in mind there are people doing this every single day with no food or no water” says Said.

In addition, the Blue Nile restaurant in the city’s southeast will be donating 25 per cent of its proceeds to the group’s fundraiser.
