Paddlers will have to wait until next year to float through the new series of pools and rapids on the Bow River called Harvie Passage, while the fire department does safety checks.
Alberta Environment says it’s too soon to open the new section of river, formerly known as the weir, despite high hopes it would be open this summer.
The pools are designed to push anyone who falls in to shore or downstream instead of under water, like the old weir did.
The Calgary Herald reports, they’ll put in safety booms and come up with a safety plan for the area before it opens in 2012.
