An Alberta farmer has been awarded $1.5-million after the physician he saw failed to respond to his meningitis fast enough, and surgeons had to amputate large parts of both legs and one arm.
According to The National Post, the doctor who saw the then 61-year-old Wayne Forsberg in Leduc, south of Edmonton, conducted tests for about three hours before doing anything.
By the time Forsberg got the antibiotics he needed, the meningitis bacteria created clots that killed tissue in his limbs.
A decade later, the judge decided the treatment delay was unacceptable and caused most of his injuries, leading to him having to sell off his cattle herd.
