PC Leadership candidates get endorsements

With the vote for the Progressive Conservative leadership race to be held next month, the battle for support is intensifying.
A day after Gary Mar and Alison Redford duked it out over the province’s anti-crime initiatives, Mar has won support from the province’s current justice minister while Redford is getting the support of the Calgary Police Association.
Of Mar, Justice Minister Verlyn Olson says the former health minister in the Klein administration combines broad appeal with solid policy.
John Dooks, President of the Calgary Police Association, tells the Calgary Herald, his 1950 members are being urged to support Redford, adding the rank and file believe that she’s did as good a job as anyone in the justice portfolio. The police association will be encouraging its members to buy memberships and vote in the PC leadership race.
Political analysts cite the battle between Mar and Redford as key, noting the two draw from a similar support base especially among more progressive party members.
