Afrikadey Festival kicks off

The 20th annual Afrikadey Festival launched in Calgary Monday night.
The headliner this year is Grammy award-winner Angelique Kidjo.
She’ll be featured at the concert part of festival on Saturday at Prince’s Island Park, which will also offer African food, crafts and activities for all ages throughout the day.
Celina Vides with Afrikadey tells 660News it offers experiences from a wide-range of cultures.
“For example the Caribbean, Jamaica, Brazil and Latin America, most of them, and Afrikadey is about showcasing the talent of the African community in Calgary,” says Vides.
She says the week is also about providing a forum for serious matters such as social issues and the famine in Africa.
