City vehicles debut yellow ribbons

With aldermen, city staff and firefighters on hand, the first few boxes filled with yellow ribbon decals arrived to City Hall Tuesday.
Aldermen John Mar and Shane Keating pressed the first few decals reading “Support our troops,” onto a gleaming red firetruck and a city bylaw van.
The rest of the decals to be displayed on city-owned vehicles will be distributed as early as Thursday.
Alderman Keating says for the soldier who’s just come home from a tour of duty, that symbol of support can mean a lot.
“That individual has that sense of pride that I think Canadians all have; has that sense of responsibility; that sense that what they did is valued within Canada and by the citizens of Calgary,” says Keating.
Council voted to allow the decals on city vehicles in late July after a similar proposal was snubbed by council in 2007.
