Donations for Slave Lake end up in dump

A trash man says he was brought to tears when he found a truckload of donations, meant for Slave Lake fire victims, in Calgary’s Spyhill Dump.

The owner of Dumprunner Waste Systems says the boxes were filled with things like new baby clothes, a crib and coats.

The Calgary Sun reports they were donated to the Salvation Army and the Canadian Red Cross from Total E&P Canada Ltd.

A Red Cross spokesperson says there’s no record of receiving the donations, and although they only accept cash, donations wouldn’t be sent to the dump.
