A new survey by TD Canada Trust shows post secondary students in Alberta are most likely to work over the summer to cover the cost of school.
The survey was conducted across Canada from June 28th to July 7th this year and shows over half of Alberta students are worried about how they are going to pay their way through school.
59 per cent of students expect to graduate with a debt load and 21 per cent of those students expect it to exceed 25,000 dollars.
TD Canada Trust’s Doug Semler tells 660News, students know full well an education can be costly and making the decision to go to post secondary school is a big investment.
He says the best way for students to manage their finances is by talking to family and friends or a financial consultant and learn to adjust their budget along the way.
The survey also shows 96 per cent of students feel post secondary qualifications are crucial to help them stand out in today’s job market.
The top expenses students expect to incur include tuition, transportation, food and technology such as laptops and cell phones.
Nearly half of students surveyed feel the most convenient way to pay for day to day expenses is using a credit card while only four out of ten students feel debit cards are the way to go.
