Body recovered from Chestermere Lake

After a six day search in Chestermere Lake, B.C. divers have recovered the body of a man they believe to be that of Bondo Katumbay.

The 33-year-old was tubing with friends and family last weekend when he fell into the lake.

It’s presumed the father of seven drowned after water and air searches failed to turn up anything shortly after the man went into the lake.

But Thursday afternoon, the RCMP underwater recovery team with the help of sonar technology in an expanded search area were successful in recovering a body.

Witnesses say Kutumbay was not wearing a life-jacket when he slipped off the tube and struggled to stay afloat when he disappeared under the water.

The medical examiner’s office will confirm the identity and determine the official cause of death.
