Fireworks no cause for celebration in Calgary

Fireworks are usually a cause for celebration, but on Saturday night, the explosive pyrotechnics caused a lot of trouble in Calgary.
Police received 18 calls about possible gunshots and it turned out all but one complaint actually involved fireworks.
Duty Inspector Paul Stacy can’t explain it. “For whatever reason a lot of people were in possession of fireworks (Saturday) night and that kept us hopping with multiple calls throughout the city. We did have one call however that was a possible gunshot complaint and it turned out that one was a gunshot.”
It happened outside a pub on 68th street northeast.
Witnesses claim a man fired several rounds into the air and then ran away.
Also on Saturday night, a fight broke out in the parking lot of a southwest bar between people armed with large knives and staff members who had to defend themselves with pool cues.
Stacey says police arrested one man who had a martial arts type sword with a foot long blade.
