It’s about a month to go until NHL training camps, and still no official word when Sidney Crosby will be back on the ice.
The 24-year-old Pittsburgh Penguins captain is still suffering from concussion-like symptoms.
“I think he’s had some symptoms on-and-off, depending on how hard he’s pushed himself; he’s pushed himself pretty hard this summer, which is the good news,” Penguins GM Ray Shero said.
“He’s not going to be pushed to come back to practice and play, and I want to make sure a year from now, three years from now, five years from now that he’s still the best player in the league, and we’ll take the appropriate steps and back him.”
It’s been seven months since the NHL’s hottest ticket actually played in a game due to the concussion.
Crosby has been in Canada working out on his own this summer and likely won’t head back to Pittsburgh until a week before training camp begins, where he will undergo a full evaluation.
Sportsnet Magazine editor Steve Maich tweeted: “Man, Ray Shero’s quotes about #Crosby still suffering occasional concussion symptoms do not sound reassuring. #NHL.”
On Twitter, a fan named Lara wrote: “I wish that my booboo cakes #SidneyCrosby would get better already.”
Let’s hope he’s feeling a little tougher than that.
