Weather delays roadwork projects around the city

Mother Nature is getting the blame for pushing back some scheduled roadwork around the city.
Several projects are facing delays, some as long as a month; that could extend traffic snarls into the fall.
City officials are keeping their eye on four projects running behind schedule; one in each quadrant of the city.
Metis Trail continues to be a mess between 80th and 96th Avenues as the timeline gets pushed back about two weeks.
Work is supposed to be done by the fall, but officials haven’t clarified which month.
Things aren’t much better along Elbow Drive as crews continue to tear up segments between Glenmore Trail and Lansdowne Avenue.
Crews at the southwest site are facing a delay of about a month.
Over in the southeast, 52nd Street is in the beginning stages of a year-long closure; much longer than the city originally planned.
The number one traffic tie-up continues to be the bridge work on Deerfoot Trail.
Work was supposed to shift from the Ogden flyover deck to the Calf Robe by August 12th, but has so far been delayed.
Calgary Transportation Director Gordon Stewart tells The Calgary Herald any delay this year will be added to next year’s schedule.
Officials are hesitant to extend any of the deadlines that are already in place.
Stewart says they will be pushing for crews to use overtime; a cost that will have to be incurred by the contracting firm.
Most contracts do have a clause that will allow for extreme weather but it’s unclear as to whether Calgary’s recent wet weather counts.
