Papa Smurf dies

One of the Stampede’s legendary bucking horses, ‘Papa Smurf’ has passed away.

The Calgary  Stampede says the 28 year-old ‘bronc’, who’s been retired since 2005,  was one of the most magnificent and important rodeo athletes in Stampede history.

‘Smurf’ was bought in 1986 for $375 dollars and over his lifetime nearly half a million dollars was won by cowboys riding the bucking horse.

‘Papa Smurf’ was laid to rest in the pasture where he passed.
