A doll auction out of the Vulcan area has raised $57,000 for charity.
When 84-year-old Marjorie Schneider passed away last year, she left behind more than 10,000 dolls on her farm near Vulcan.
Her husband, Fred, tells The Calgary Herald he was surprised how much money a few of them brought in when he put them up for auction a couple of weeks ago; the most expensive went for $1,200.
The Schneider family is giving the proceeds to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Vulcan Hospital.
Many of the other less expensive dolls are being donated to victims of the Slave Lake wildfire.
