Alberta launches unprecedented cancer study

Cancer affects everyone in some way.
Here in Alberta, one in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime. One in four will die.
That’s why researchers hope to recruit 50-thousand Albertans to take part in a long term study aimed at finding out what causes the disease.
Project lead Dr. Paula Robson says studying subects by the tens and even hundreds of thousands will give researchers much more to work with over the next few decades.
She says the Tomorrow Project already has 15-thousand people signed up, and she believes they’ll hit the 50 thousand mark by the start of 2013.
“Anyone out there who has a relative or a loved one who’s ever had to hear, ‘I’m sorry you’ve got cancer,’ I think, you know if we can prevent that from happening in the future, the challenge is worth it,” says Robson.
The goal is to have 300 thousand Canadians participate in five provinces. To take part in the study or find out more information, click here.
